unknown

So much is unknown right now. There are very real, present concerns. And then a myriad of what ifs. And if we’re not mindful of it, our minds will run circles around us with a flurry of questions and scenarios that we just do not have the answers for right now.

Grasping for what we cannot hold, trying to control things beyond our reach, it just leads to fear. Trying to know what we just cannot know right now, so very often leads to anxiety.

Uncertainty fuels anxiety.

So when we are trapped on a merry-go-round of what we do not know, when our minds are consumed with what ifs, one way we can slow the spin-out is to focus on what we do know. When my mind and heart is stuck on uncertainty, I have to choose to dwell on what I do know.

I do know that it’s Spring now. A season bursting new life where every morning we wake up to increasingly vivid color.

I do know that God loves us, that He loves our families, that He loves the world (John 3:16). That He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), that he weeps with those who weep (John 11:35) and comforts those who mourn (Isaiah 61:2). I do know that all of our days are numbered (Psalm 39:4). I do know that God has not lost track of us (Psalm 139). I know that nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38-39). I know that God has a future for us that is good and hopeful (Jeremiah 29:11). I know that His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). And I know that God gives His children the grace we need for each moment, as it comes…not necessarily for the moments ten steps down the road. So I can trust Him, walk with Him, rely on Him and not my own understanding.

When I’m caught in a downward spiral of uncertainty, I’m choosing self-reliance. When I abide in Christ in the moment by focusing on what I do know, I’m choosing to trust Him.

What do you know today? Rest in Him. Receive with open hands all that He has right now.
