deaths and life
There are times when it feels like deaths are everywhere you look. The groanings that things are not the way they should be. You hope and then another slap comes. It can be exhausting.
Yet something that stood out to me awhile ago, is that all these anxious groanings, are in some way described as labor pains (Romans 8:22). And labor pains, apart from tragic exceptions, they bring new life. Labor pains are meant to bring life. So somehow, each of these deaths is leading to what is birthing a life. A life that is inexhaustible.
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to trade the exhausted for the inexhaustible.
One day. One day sooner than we think. It’s coming. He’s coming.
And until then, I’ll defy the odds and hold onto faith, hope and love. Till the day that only love remains. Yet somehow, this faith and hope, in the very face of the groanings, is a defiance holding onto life here and now and the ultimate life to come. So today, I will live.
