agreeing
If you have an enemy, would you agree with them? If you have an enemy that is a liar, would you believe them? If you have an enemy that comes to steal, kill and destroy, would you go along with them?
Who are you choosing to agree with? Who are you letting speak defining words over your life?
If a thought reveals an underlying belief that is not in line with what is right and true, then (quite simply) it is not right and true.
And if something is not right and true, then (quite simply) it is wrong and a lie.
And here’s where it gets a little tricky… But just because we have been in a place where we have been defined by what is wrong and a lie, doesn’t mean that we should embrace or predict that for our future. Yet it also doesn’t mean that we won’t face hard things or even stumble some in the future. But let me just ask you this… Why would we borrow trouble for the future? There are many reasons… But may I just ask us to be willing to acknowledge where we are and yet agree with what is right and true and not borrow trouble or defeat for tomorrow?
It can be so easy to embrace labels that keep us from really having to deal with underlying beliefs and keep us from hoping that tomorrow could be different. And tomorrow might not look different in some ways… but it can always be different in ways that matter significantly.
When we’re grasping for handles to get through, let’s be careful to acknowledge our present state and reality but agree with what is right and true. Let’s purpose to agree with our Good Shepherd who speaks life and not our enemy who leads to death.
What are you agreeing with? Who are you agreeing with?
