time

I have this little theory about time…

Time. Time is a funny thing. Won't you indulge me and allow me to share a little theory I have?

You know those spans of time that seem at once long and short? A vacation that flew by far too quickly and yet as you think back on all the things you did, it seems to take up a much larger space of time. That school year that drug on painfully slow in the tedious moments but as you look back, it seems as if you blinked and now it's over.

I believe that this often abstract relationship we have with time reflects a greater truth. The truth that we are eternal beings not created to be bound by time.

We were not created in the image of God to be bound by endings, death or loss. We were created for an unending life with no bounds! No stop. No goodbyes. Yet we chose our own path, our own way...and endings, death, and goodbyes came.

Still though, God has placed eternity in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11). A longing for the unending. Life. Hellos never punctuated with goodbyes. The loss of loss. To be found completely in Him again.

To any who would believe, "the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son" (1 John 5:11).

Eternal life, and life to the full, beginning here and now. Even in the ache and loss. In the goodbyes and endings. A beckoning to live transcendent, alive, eternal...beyond the limits of time. Into forever.

To live fully alive here and now is to not brush aside the beckonings of eternity.
